I was immensely honoured, humbled, thankful and thrilled to have my book, Pillars of Statecraft: Nation Building In A Changing World, presented at the Nigerian Institute for International Affairs (NIIA) on the Friday the 16th of June 2023.
I participated in an engaging a panel discussion led by my father, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria. Professor Eghosa Osaghae, Director-General of the NIIA completed the roll call of panelists. Chairman of the occasion was Mr Aigboje-Aig- Imoukhuede, Chairman of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation. Distinguished academician, Professor Peter Okebukola gave the book review. Shouldering the dual roles of MC and panel moderator was Mr Kunle Kasumu, host of Channels TV Book Club.
The memorable event focused on discussion about nation building in a changing world. The 6 Pillars were interrogated in-depth, with audience questions and an engaging panel conversation creating a lively discussion.
People constitute the nation state and population, one of the ‘pillars’, is the essence of successful nation building. A government that truly serves its people with commitment and continuity of citizen-centred policies will ultimately build a successful, cohesive nation.
Change begins with the individual and in the quest for excellence in statecraft, people must be the focus of any endeavour at nation building.
